Matt Herndon is currently Professor of Business & Technology at Gulf Coast State College (GCSC), where he has taught Macro & Micro Economics and Logistics for over ten years. Matt has also taught Financial Markets, the Banking System, and Monetary Policy, as well as Analysis of Economic Data at FSU – Panama City. While at GCSC, he served as Chairman of the college’s Rank, Promotion & Tenure Committee developing an “Evaluative Organization Framework” for more objectively evaluating candidates that was subsequently integrated into the college’s Manual of Policy. He continues to serve on the college’s General Education Committee.

Prior to full-time college teaching, Matt spent over 20 years in various corporate and financial planning roles. He was Director of Business Intelligence for GenAmerica Financial (a MetLife affiliate) in St. Louis, where he created and directed a new business/market intelligence function that supported national marketing and competitive assessment for the firm.

He also represented American Express Financial Advisors, Inc. in West Virginia, Kentucky & southern Ohio as a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) developing and implementing financial plans for high net-worth individuals and small business clients. He cultivated 50 new clients over a one-year period, leading the region and winning a bonus award for the highest number of plan sales over the contest period.

Matt also served as Corporate Economist/Forecasting Supervisor for San Diego Gas & Electric (now Sempra Energy), where he supervised a staff of up to ten professionals in developing market-forecasting systems that supported corporate planning and budgeting, and advised management and regional leaders on market conditions and economic development activities. He also initiated an innovative public/private research and planning process focused on enhancing regional business development.

In addition to his degrees, Matt currently holds a CTL (Certified in Transportation & Logistics) from APICS. He has also been a licensed CFP (Certified Financial Planner) and CLU (Chartered Life Underwriter), as well as EA (Enrolled Agent) – Licensed to Practice Before the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). He also held Series 7 & 63 Securities Licenses, as well as Life, Health, and Disability Insurance Licenses in seven U.S. states.

Matt is the Chief Auditor for the Distinguished Young Women of Florida, Inc. (formerly Junior Miss) organization’s state scholarship competition. He also serves as the organization’s tax preparer, and manager of IRS 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status & State of Florida compliance requirements.
