Q: How can I apply for a GCEC Award?
A: The annual GCEC Awards are managed through the GCEC Headquarters. The deadline to apply for an award is June 23. Apply here. If you have further questions, please email marketing@globalentrepreneurshipconsortium.org.
Q: When are the annual awards presented?
A: Award winners will be announced on the final night of the Conference at the awards ceremony and dinner on Saturday, October 17. Please note that a leader from your entity must be registered for and attend the conference to receive an award.
Q: Will transportation be provided during the conference?
A: Yes. Shuttle service will be available between official hotels, campus venues, and evening events.
Q: Can I use Uber or Lyft?
A: Yes. Rideshare services are widely available and affordable in Tallahassee.
Q: Is the conference walkable?
A: Yes. The main conference venues are located within a compact, walkable area on Florida State University’s campus.
Q: What is near the conference area?
A: Collegetown offers restaurants, cafés, and nightlife within walking distance of campus.
Q: What currency is used?
A: U.S. Dollar (USD)
Q: Are credit cards accepted?
A: Yes. Credit and contactless payments are widely accepted.
Q: Which airport should I fly into?

Q: Do I need a visa?
A: Visa requirements vary by country. Please check U.S. entry requirements in advance.
Q: Are there alligators everywhere?
A: Not everywhere. Contrary to popular belief, Floridians do not commute to work on alligators, and they are not roaming the conference halls. However, alligators are common throughout Florida and can be found in lakes, ponds, and other freshwater areas. As with any wildlife, admire them from a safe distance and do not feed them.
Q: Are venues accessible?
A: Yes. All primary conference venues at Florida State University are ADA-compliant.
Q: Will meals be provided?
A: Yes. Breakfast (at hotels), lunch, and select dinners are included with registration.
Q: Is Tallahassee a beach town?
A: No. This surprises many visitors. Tallahassee is Florida's capital city and is known for its rolling hills, oak-canopied roads, universities, and natural springs. The Gulf Coast is nearby, but you'll have a short drive to reach the beach.
Q: What is "Florida Man"?
A: Florida Man is a mythical figure who appears in news stories after making a series of questionable life decisions. While sightings are common online, conference attendees are unlikely to encounter one in person.
Q: Are there sharks?
A: Yes. Fortunately, they tend to remain in the ocean and show little interest in conference programming.
Q: Why are there squirrels everywhere on campus?
A: The squirrels at Florida State University have spent years perfecting the art of obtaining snacks from students. Please admire them, but avoid contributing to their entrepreneurial ventures.
Q: Is Florida really as hot as everyone says?
A: In October, Tallahassee is usually quite pleasant. Expect warm afternoons, cooler evenings, and significantly less humidity than summer. That said, Florida weather enjoys spontaneity. Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a light jacket are all reasonable choices to pack.
Q: What is the weather like in Tallahassee in October?
A: October is typically warm and comfortable, with daytime temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s °F (25–28 °C) and cooler mornings and evenings.
Q: What should I pack?
A: Business casual attire is appropriate for conference events. We recommend lightweight clothing, comfortable walking shoes, and a light jacket or sweater for evenings and air-conditioned venues. Brief rain showers are possible in October. A compact umbrella or light rain jacket is a good idea.
Is October hurricane season in Florida?
Yes. While major impacts are uncommon, attendees should monitor weather forecasts before traveling. Conference updates will be shared directly with attendees if needed.
Q: How many seasons does Tallahassee have?
A: Officially four. Floridians may describe them as "Hot," "Still Hot," "Football Season," and "Pollen."
