Dr. Mark R. McNees is the Director of the Social and Sustainable Enterprises Master's Program and is the Sustainability Entrepreneur in Residence at Florida State University’s Jim Moran College of Entrepreneurship. His research and public scholarship focus on the economics of corporate cost accountability: who bears the costs that corporations create, and how policy can keep those costs from being shifted onto the public. His current work examines the energy and ratepayer implications of AI data center growth, with the broader pattern extending across sectors including healthcare, insurance, and water.
Dr. McNees is an active public-facing scholar whose commentary has appeared in The Washington Post, USA Today, The Hill, and the Tampa Bay Times, among other outlets. He hosts the InNOLEvation® Mindset podcast, the college’s innovation and entrepreneurship podcast, and is the author of The CEO’s Mindset Reset. He brings two decades of experience founding and scaling ventures to his teaching, which centers on using business as a force for social and environmental good.
Students interested in social entrepreneurship, sustainable enterprise, energy and corporate-accountability policy, or the practical application of systems thinking will find a strong research and mentorship fit.
