The Incubator Program
The newly imagined JMC Student Incubator is an integral part of the broader JMC student engagement efforts. While students are still encouraged to participate in all available student engagement resources and activities as they wish, the Incubator offers a more structured, goal-oriented experience. It includes built-in accountability through required monthly mentor meetings, recommended milestones with targeted engagement tasks, and a clear roadmap for entrepreneurial progression.
The program now consists of three stages:
- Torch I – Ideate: For students who are initiating or refining their business ideas.
- Torch II – Develop: For students working on prototypes, customer discovery, or validation.
- Torch III – Scale: For students with early traction who are ready to grow their business further. This stage includes access to the Greenhouse Incubator in the Jim Moran Building and the use of the office address for business registration.
The goal of the Incubator is to offer a more personalized and supportive experience for students at any stage of their entrepreneurial journey, maintain momentum through a guided pathway, and deepen their engagement and development over time.
To advance to the next stages, students must meet regularly with a mentor and complete targeted engagement tasks—such as attending workshops or presenting at Mentor Night—based on the stage of their business and the activities most beneficial to their growth. In addition, each student business is expected to achieve key milestones before moving forward to the next stage of the program.
