PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Matt is Teaching Faculty in the Master of Science in Social and Sustainable Enterprises (SSE) where he teaches sustainable value chains through the lens of food and agricultural entrepreneurship. Students learn the consumer and investor cases for sustainability, the international treaties and protocols that guide climate commitments, the prescriptions on how to achieve net zero carbon targets by 2050, how innovative startups disrupt emissions-intensive food production, and the market-based climate solutions that align with firms’ sustainability strategies. These serve as workforce skills for rapidly growing opportunities in corporate sustainability and enterprise formation.
Matt was a top-50 senior manager at Bunge (NYSE: BG) where he led a global product line of 6 business units and 102 people in 11 countries that monetized financial opportunities from emerging market agricultural trade. His start-up businesses included a corporate venture capital group and a carbon credits trading business. He served on the leadership team of Agribusiness, Bunge’s largest division and was the global commercial lead on Diversity and Inclusion initiatives.
Matt’s introduction to entrepreneurship was straight out of graduate school when he co-founded a hedge fund in the new market of weather derivatives. He set up trading infrastructure, valuation models, and the proprietary weather database. Matt worked with the leadership team to arrange financing for company and participated in capital raise meetings. He coordinated due diligence with the creditor banks and presented methodology to rating agencies to attain credit standing for trading portfolio.
Matt earned his Master of Science and Doctoral degrees from Florida State in Meteorology.
