The Body Scanning Lab houses a multifaceted 3D body scanner capable of collecting over 240 precise body measurements in seconds. While data collection is the primary function, diverse industries, including health, fitness, and retail, are leveraging this technology to drive product development and enhance customer experiences.
In the apparel and retail sectors, body scanning is utilized in two primary ways: optimizing the product development process and elevating consumer engagement. During development, designers use the technology to evaluate garment fit and analyze target market data to adjust sizing standards. For brick-and-mortar and digital retail environments, scans can be used to recommend accurate sizing, suggest styles tailored to specific body types, and create personalized avatars that improve the online shopping experience.

The Body Scanning Lab is one of three dedicated spaces utilized by the WARP (Wearable Engineering and Apparel Research) Group at Florida State University. Led by Dr. Meredith McQuerry and her team of postdoctoral, graduate, and undergraduate researchers, this group leverages these facilities for advanced teaching, academic research, and external industry testing.
