STEM Minors for STEM ENT Majors

Biological Sciences (No Prerequisites)

A minimum of twelve semester hours of biological science courses approved for major credit, including BSC 2010/L and BSC 2011/L, plus at least four credit hours of additional upper division biological science coursework. No more than one credit hour of S/U graded coursework can be counted toward the minor. A minimum of four semester hours of the twelve semester hours must be taken at Florida State University. Grades below “C–” will not be accepted for minor credit. Students are responsible for all additional prerequisites.

Chemistry (Pre-req: MAC1105)

The requirements for a minor in chemistry include the two-semester sequence in general chemistry (CHM 1045, 1045L, 1046, 1046L, or CHM 1050/1050L, 1051/1051L) and at least one of the following course sequences: CHM 2210–2211, CHM3120–3120L, CHM 3217–CHM 3217L, CHM 4410–4411. A minimum of twelve semester hours is required. Grades below “C–” will not be accepted for minor credit. Students are responsible for all additional prerequisites.

 

Information Technology (No Prerequisites)

  • LIS 2360 Web Application Development
  • LIS 2780 Database Concepts
  • LIS 3353 Information Technologies or LIS 4480 IT Leadership

 

Mathematics (Pre-req: MAC1147)

A minor in mathematics consists of twelve semester hours in courses with prefixes MAA, MAC, MAD, MAP, MAS, MAT, MGF, MHF, and MTG, but not including any of the courses numbered 1XXX, or

MAC 2233. A grade of “C–” or better must be earned in each course counted toward the minor. Students are responsible for all additional prerequisites.

  • COP 2258 Problem-Solving with Object-Oriented Programming

 

 

Computer Science (Pre-req: MAC1105)

(CGS classes – Pre-req: MAC1105, COP classes – pre-req: MAC1140)

Students pursuing a minor in Computer Science may choose a minimum of twelve (12) hours from a list of computer science courses preapproved by the department. Students must also satisfy stated prerequisites before enrolling in any computer science course offered by the Computer Science Department, including CGS 2060 (or CGS 2100), CGS 3465, CGS 3406 (or COP 3014 or COP 3363), additional COP 3XXX/4XXX, CIS 3XXX/4XXX, CNT 3XXX/4XXX, CDA 3XXX/4XXX, and CAP 3XXX/CAP4XXX to a total of 12 hours, subject to the following:

  • Only one of CGS 2060 and CGS 2100 can be counted toward the minor;
  • Only one from CGS 3406, COP 3014, and COP 3363 can be counted toward the minor; and
  • At least one programming course from CGS 3465, CGS 3416, COP 3014 (or CGS 3406, or COP 3363). Students must also satisfy stated prerequisites before enrolling in any computer science course.

 

Environmental Sciences (No Prerequisites)

A minor in Environmental Science consists of a minimum of fifteen semester hours of Environmental Science courses, including two of the following: MET 1010 or MET 3231, GLY 2010C or OCE 4008, AND any three courses from the Environmental elective courses:

Pre-Med/Pre-Health

Students wishing to pursue this “minor” option, will need to meet with Ali Craig-Rodriguez to determine the personalized courses before beginning in the major (map term 5). This approved course list must be shared with Mrs. Stafford to confirm this “minor”.
